Many Words For Four

quad: a quadrangle. In architecture, a quadrangle is a space or a courtyard, usually rectangular in plan, the sides of which are entirely or mainly occupied by parts of a large building. For example, several universities in the U.S. have quad like yard and architecture, following the example of Oxford University.

quadrangle: a four-sided plane figure, especially a square or rectangle.

quadrant: each of four quarters of a circle.

quarter: each of four equal or corresponding parts into which something is or can be divided.

quartet: a group of four people playing music or singing together.

quadruple: increase or be increased fourfold.

quadrupedal: (of an animal) four-footed; using all four feet for walking and running.

quadruplet: each of four children born at one birth.

quadriceps: the large muscle at the front of the thigh, which is divided into four distinct portions and acts to extend the leg.

quarterly: done, produced, or occurring once every quarter of a year.

quadrille: a square dance performed typically by four couples in a rectangular formation. It was fashionable in late 18th- and 19th-century Europe.

quadrilateral: a flat geometric figure of four sides and four angles.

square: a plane figure with four equal straight sides and four right angles.

love square: A love square is when four characters in a story become romantically involved with each other. I haven’t seen this happen around me but it must exist.

square peg in a round hole: it is used to describe an unusual individualist who could not fit into a niche of their society.

a square meal: a substantial, satisfying, and balanced meal.

    1. I’ve never heard of this myself, but it showed up on a google search of idioms. I usually only pick those that I’ve heard before, but “love square” seems too interesting to be excluded from the list. What a phrase. I’ve never seen any love square before although I’ve seen love triangle many times in my life.

        1. I had been in a love triangle a couple of times before I became vigilant about men’s betrayals. The problem was that I didn’t even know I was in a love triangle and ended up being outmaneuvered without even knowing there was a maneuvering going on.

        3. Perhaps by subject and set up similar to as thesaurus, like a dictionary, but by subject and then alphabetical. This is a wonderful resource for anyone coming into this country that is not familiar with slang or terminology that she can’t find in a dictionary. You do a very comprehensive job of covering each subject matter you write on. I think it’s very sellable myself. Sending you my love, Joni🤗❤️
