Things Unexpected

  1. I went to the store to pick up some emergency mouthwash and dental floss, and the store assistant told a lady in front of me to put on her mask. She must be vaccinated. I thought people who are vaccinated don’t have to wear masks anymore.
  2. Gossip about an acquaintance who always manages to find crazy girlfriends. He is just not into normal women. What’s the psychology behind this? Sometimes we don’t know how another person think. He talks and behaves like a normal person, but his choice of girlfriends are astonishingly weird.
  3. Call a friend to ask for his advice about something. He has no advice that I haven’t already known. In reality I don’t expect him to come up with anything–I just want to talk about the issue in hand. A lot of things in this world have no solutions and we live with our incapacity of solving things, pretending we are happy about it. Wait a second, what if it has a solution but due to our lack of imagination that we think it has no solution?
  4. A neighbor’s kid got transferred into University of Pennsylvania and the parents are sending out celebratory messages all over the social media. It is quite unexpected, given the competitiveness of the college admission right now. The family was in despair for months, anticipating bad news and it is said the entire village of the grandparents in Southeast Asia was in vigil, knowing that the transfer result is coming out right now. LOL. Yes, education takes a whole village. I heard that the admission rate is gradually dropping towards 0%, but all the Asian parents continue to strive. And of course the parents are going to give up everything, including their air-conditioning during the summer months, to pay for their kid’s college tuition. If you go to Menlo Park Mall here during the summer, you will see them loitering there without buying anything. They even bring their laptop to do extra work, taking advantage of the free wifi from the Apple store.

  1. I had a friend who always had weird/crazy girlfriends and I was like hmmm I wonder why. Then I realised they were normal when they met him and he was the one driving them crazy with his awful behaviour lol.

    1. LOL. That’s so funny. You are soooooo right. I think I know a woman who suffers from her husband like that. She’s almost an expert detective now with years of experience tracking her husband’s wayward moves. I think he is driving her nuts.

        1. Yes, I know women who are so engrossed in their crazy relationship that they lose track of life in general. A bad relationship can be so consuming and mad…

  2. Vaccine does not affect need to wear masks in UK – just about anywhere indoors (except at home). Most intrigued by number 1 in your list: could you please define emergency mouthwash and dental floss? 😉

      1. I don’t think it will end so soon. In India, we find new complications like black fungus out of this nonsense. We can only pray for our safety.

  3. 1. That’s what I thought, too. Here in Colorado the governor has left it up to the merchants if they still want to require masks or not.
    2. My brother always has weird girlfriends. the “normal” ones don’t stay.
    3. That’s a good question.
