I ran into L today in the supermarket. As you know, I have lost my interest in shopping for groceries ever since the inflation started. I used to like looking for coupons, buying discount stuff, and feeling the pleasure of saving money while spending money. However, recently coupons are hard to come by, discounts are not easily obtained, and my pleasure of shopping is mostly gone.
So L and I chatted for a few minutes, trying to catch up.
“Look, durians have reached the price of $15 a pound. Can you believe that? That’s scandalous. How can one pay such kind of money to eat just several pieces of fruit?” I said to her.
“Well, don’t look at it this way. I walk around the grocery aisles, thinking this is something I don’t buy and that is something I don’t buy. I have saved $10 here and $20 there.” She said.
So I looked at the durians with fresh eyes and began to think about the $15 I saved. It really worked. I immediately felt better. L thinks happiness is just an opinion. I mean L is stuck and she can’t really make changes to her life since any change will upset her financial situations and her sense of security. So she has to find a way to be happy under the circumstance.
You know, you just gave me an idea to get some dragonfruit

Today I once again saved the price of a new oven by not replacing the one that broke.
