New Word #107
I thought about the word “green” a month ago when the spring was in full swing, and all the trees and bushes started to turn green, but I didn’t get to compile the words until now. There aren’t many words for the green color, not as many as words for red, brown, blue etc. I can only find 9 words. By the way, I really don’t know the difference between bluish green and the greenish blue. However when I go to image.google.com, it does show two distinctly different colors for jade and turquoise.
verdant: green
jade: bluish green
emerald: bright green
turquoise: greenish blue
aquamarine: light bluish green
aqua: this is the same color as aquamarine.
teal: dark greenish blue
lime: bright light green. However many limes are dark green rather than light green.
viridescent: greenish
Green Phrases
green with envy: very envious
greenhorn: (informal) a person who is new to or inexperienced at a particular activity.
green thumb: (informal) natural talent for growing plant
green light: (informal) given permission to go ahead.
The grass is always greener on the other side: other people’s lives or situations always seem better than your own.
I know these words and phrases but somehow I never end up using them. I really want to use more new words on a regular basis.

I love this spread of the different types of green! Knowing exactly what shade of green I have in mind is a wonderful way to add detail to writing. 🙂
