New Word #33: Different Kinds Of Villains

desperado: a desperate or reckless person, especially a criminal.

degenerate: an immoral or corrupt person.

rogue: a dishonest or unprincipled man.

scoundrel: a dishonest or unscrupulous person; a rogue.

fugitive: a person who has escaped from a place or is in hiding, especially to avoid arrest or persecution. Actually fugitive may not be a villain and in the movie “Fugitive”, Harrison Ford played the innocent doctor who’s wrongly accused of killing his wife.

outlaw: a person who has broken the law, especially one who remains at large or is a fugitive.

philanderer: a person readily enters casual relationships

debauchee: a person given to excessive indulgence

apostate: a person who renounces a religious or political belief or principle

renegade: a person who deserts and betrays an organization, country, or set of principles.

charlatan: a person falsely claiming to have a special knowledge or skill; a fraud

grifter: a person who engages in petty or small-scale swindling

grafter; a form of political corruption, being the unscrupulous use of a politician’s authority for personal gain

racketeer: a person who engages in dishonest and fraudulent business dealings. This word is often used on people related with organized crime families in movies like “The Godfather” or shows like “The Sopranos”.

con man: a man who cheats or tricks someone by gaining their trust and persuading them to believe something that is not true.

  1. It’s funny how some words for villains can actually be used in humour too. My favourite is rascal. I had a cat named Rascal a long time ago

    1. Oh, that’s so true. Rascal is a wonderful name for a pet. I wonder why people never name their pet rogue although I’ve always thought rogue can be a suitable name for a cat who’s aloof and mischievous. LOL.

    1. LOL. Me too. Learning new words always give me that kind of feeling of wishing I had learned more when in school. LOL. This is a good feeling to have and let’s learn a little bit once in a while. Together. LOL.

    1. LOL. Yes, learning can be interesting. About three or four are new to me. There must be more and I’ve always thought of putting it out there and add more as time goes by. LOL.
