I have an Audible plus membership and it gives free audio books. Even though I know I often don’t like these free books, I can’t resist a freebie. So I downloaded an anthology of poems “She Walked In Beauty”. It turns out better than I thought. Most of these poems are about love, a topic one will never get tired of.
I have been so great a lover: filled my days
“The Great Lover” by Rupert Brooke
So proudly with the splendour of Love’s praise,
The pain, the calm, and the astonishment,
Desire illimitable, and still content,
And all dear names men use, to cheat despair,
For the perplexed and viewless streams that bear
Our hearts at random down the dark of life.
“By the time you swear you’re his,
Dorothy Parker
Shivering and sighing.
And he vows his passion is,
Infinite, undying.
Lady make note of this —
One of you is lying.”
The God of Passion has his will of me
Steve Kowit
& I am tossed about
between humiliation & desire,
rectitude & lust,
disintegration & renewal,
ruin & salvation.
lovers go and lovers come
“Sweet Spring” by E. E. Cummings
awandering awondering
but any two are perfectly
alone there’s nobody else alive
You do not seem to realise that
Marianne Moore
beauty is a liability rather than
an asset …
anything an
ambitious civilisation might produce:
for you, unaided to attempt through sheer
reserve…
You cannot make us
think you a delightful happen-so.
But rose, if you are brilliant, it
is not because your petals are
the without-which-nothing of pre-eminence.
You would look, minus
thorns—like a what-is-this, a mere
peculiarity.
Think how many blameless lives are brightened by the blazing indiscretions of other people.
Saki
They spoil every romance by trying to make it last forever.
Oscar Wilde
Beautiful poetry, thanks for sharing!

Haha. I am glad you like it. She is a riot, isn’t she? Unfortunately she is often right.

Sometimes the best things in life are free. This almost gives me an idea for a new post . . .

So true. Let me think of those things that are free. I know a person who grew up on an island. When he wanted to swim, he just went to the beach. And he is not comfortable that after he grew up, he has to pay to swim.

I mean after he grew up and move to other places…
